The bottle can be used without a flow valve, where feeding will be similar to most bottles with a teat vent.
The doctor-designed baby bottle delivers a unique patented system of optimal air inflation. This system significantly reduces the incidence of abdominal pain, vomiting, burping and bloating.

An internal flow valve prevents air bubbles from forming in breast milk or other fluids. There is no vacuum formation, which helps to reduce uncomfortable intra-ear pressure. The controlled flow ensures that the baby feeds at its own pace.

The internal valve together with the silicone teat are designed to provide a smooth milk flow. Dr.Brown's pacifiers are made of very soft, high quality silicone and are BPA free. The different teat grades differ in flow rate.

A university study targeting the detection of nutrient levels in breast milk and feeding with different bottles (during a feeding lasting 20 minutes) showed that Dr.Brown's help maintain levels of important nutrients. The valve system reduces the mixing of milk and air and the formation of bubbles in the milk to prevent the loss of nutrients in the milk.

Some parents are comfortable with the option to remove the valve insert when the baby has reached a certain degree of maturity in feeding. Without a valve, Options+ bottles allow feeding similar to most bottles with a vented teat.
