HOW DOES NATURAL LATEX COME AND WHAT IS THE REGENERATIVE RUBBER INITIATIVE?

Natural latex is a white liquid produced by dairy cows from the rubber tree. The rubber tree is mostly grown in monocultures. We can call monoculture a field where more than 90% of the same plant is grown.

The main problems of monoculture plantations include unfair working conditions, low wages, poor working environment, but also the exploitation of small farmers. Other problems include biodiversity loss, rainforest deforestation, soil erosion and long-term environmental damage through the high amount of agrochemicals used.

The cultivation of rubber trees is increasingly associated with the deforestation of rainforests, as is the case with the cultivation of oil palm.

Natural latex used to make XO condoms! comes from a small farmers' cooperative in southern Thailand and is 100% sustainably grown through the Regenerative Rubber Initiative.
