Why is it important to protect your children from UVA and UVB rays?

In children under one year of age, the cornea and especially the lens are still not sufficiently developed to protect the retina. It is at this age that 90% of UVA and 50% of UVB can pass through to the retina, causing damage to the eye. The lens does not fully develop until 12 years of age.
